Overview

Mothers Network (formerly called New Mothers Support) is a community organisation, founded in 1982, which supports women with babies/ young children. It runs eight-week discussion groups for mothers with young babies/ young children/ toddlers.  the cost per participant is $40 for the entire 7 week group.

Mothers Network is unique in that its focus is on the mothers. Its groups are run by mothers, for mothers. Its main goal is to give women a means to develop networks of support within their own community. Mothers Network provides the venue, refreshments, two trained facilitators, resources and babysitting.

Women discuss the issues important to them as mothers, come up with ways to have positive parenting experiences and build friendships.

Topics for discussion usually include: the hassles and joys of motherhood, your needs as a woman, changes in relationships, finding ways of support and goals for the future.

Mothers Network maintains an office and three paid part-time coordinators. We liaise with other parent-focussed organisations and professionals, such as Plunket, medical centres, Ora Toa Puniki Health Service, Pregnancy Support, Parent Centres, playgroups, midwives and Post Natal Depression Support.

We are financially supported by grants from Wellington City Council, The New Zealand Lottery Grants Board, TG Mccarthy Trust, John Ilott Trust, The Home of Compassion, , The Winton and Margaret Bear Charitable Trust, The Lion Foundation, Wellington Children’s Foundation, CH Izard Bequest, Hutt Mana Charitable Trust and New Zealand Post.

We gratefully acknowledge the contributions made by our sponsors, as without them we would not be able to provide our services.

Participants are requested to pay $40 to attend but we stress that participation is more important than payment.
